Type a number, get that many paragraphs of the classic filler, always opening with the canonical Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet… line so designs read as intentionally unfinished rather than accidentally broken. Placeholder text has a real job: it lets you judge a layout's typography, rhythm, and line lengths without the meaning of real words hijacking the review. The vocabulary here is the traditional scrambled-Cicero word stock, sentence lengths vary naturally, and each click reshuffles - so adjacent cards in a mockup don't repeat suspiciously.

How to generate placeholder text

Type how many paragraphs you want into Paragraphs (1-50). Leave it empty to get 3.
Press Generate. The paragraphs appear in Placeholder out, separated by a blank line.
Press Generate again for a different shuffle. Each press builds new sentences, so two blocks of the same size will not match word for word.
Press Copy result and paste into your design tool, CMS, or template. Clear empties both boxes.

What the generator actually builds

Knowing the shape of the output helps you ask for the right amount and avoid surprises when it lands in a layout.

The opening sentence is fixed. The first paragraph always starts with the standard 19-word sentence: Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet, consectetur adipiscing elit, sed do eiusmod tempor incididunt ut labore et dolore magna aliqua. Later paragraphs do not repeat it.
Every other sentence is random. Each one picks 6 to 15 words at random from a fixed list of 63 Latin-looking words, capitalizes the first letter, and ends with a period. These sentences contain no commas, and because words are drawn independently, the same word can appear twice in a row.
Paragraph length varies. Each paragraph has 4 to 7 sentences, including the fixed opener in the first paragraph. That works out to 24 to 105 words for each paragraph after the first, and 37 to 109 words for the first.
The output is plain text. Paragraphs are separated by one empty line, and there are no HTML tags, headings, or list items.

How the number box is read matters too. The value is parsed as a whole number from the start of what you type: 2.9 gives 2 paragraphs, and 1e3 gives 1. A value of 0, a negative number, or text that is not a number at all gives 1 paragraph rather than an error. Anything above 50 stops with the message Capped at 50 paragraphs per batch.

The first paragraph has the fixed opener plus three random sentences. The second has five random sentences and no opener.

Using placeholder text well

Filler is meant to stand in for real copy, so match it to the real copy you expect. If a product card will hold about 30 words, generate one paragraph and cut it to roughly that length rather than dropping in a full block that makes the card look taller than it will ever be. For long-form pages, several short paragraphs give a more honest picture of rhythm than one long one.

Also plan for the moment the placeholder has to go. Lorem ipsum that ships to production is a common and very visible mistake. Before launch, search your templates and content for several of the filler words, such as lorem, dolore, and consectetur. Searching for more than one word matters, because a trimmed or reshuffled block may not contain any particular word.

Common problems and how to fix them

You need an exact word or character count

The generator works in paragraphs and sentence lengths are random. Generate a bit more than you need, cut to size, and confirm the number with the word counter.

You need HTML paragraphs, not plain text

Copy the output into the Markdown to HTML converter. Blank-line-separated text is valid Markdown, so each paragraph comes back wrapped in <p> tags.

The layout needs to test long words or other scripts

The word list is short Latin words, the longest being reprehenderit. It will not reveal how a column handles a long URL, a German compound noun, or right-to-left text. Paste a realistic sample of your actual content for those checks.

Every card in a mockup starts with "Lorem ipsum dolor sit amet"

If you generate one paragraph per card, every card gets the fixed opener, which makes a grid look repetitive. Generate one batch with a paragraph more than you have cards, skip the first paragraph, and give each card one of the rest. Those all start with random sentences.

Questions this tool gets asked

Where does lorem ipsum come from?

It is scrambled Latin lifted from Cicero's De Finibus Bonorum et Malorum (45 BC), in use as printer's filler since at least the 1500s and standard in typesetting ever since Letraset sheets popularized it.

Why not just use real text as placeholder?

Readable words pull reviewers into reading instead of looking. Nonsense text with natural word-length distribution keeps the review on layout, spacing, and type - which is the point of a draft.

Can I get a specific word count instead of paragraphs?
